When to use it
Faster web pages
Replace heavy PNG graphics with WebP to cut page weight without losing transparent backgrounds.
App and game assets
Shrink UI graphics and sprites that need an alpha channel.
Blog and documentation images
Convert screenshots in bulk before publishing to keep pages light.
What to expect
Output is always WebP. Transparency is kept, and the compression level controls quality. Screenshots and illustrations typically become far smaller than the original PNG. Safari users get the same result through a built-in WebP encoder.
Limits apply to both input and output. Animated images are not supported. Files remain in memory only; reloads clear your work. Smaller batches help on mobile devices.

Frequently asked questions
Does WebP keep PNG transparency?
Yes. WebP supports an alpha channel, so transparent and semi-transparent areas are preserved.
How much smaller is WebP than PNG?
It depends on the image, but screenshots and illustrations often shrink by 50–90%. Photos saved as PNG usually see the biggest savings.
Which compression level should I use?
Recommended works for most web graphics. Choose Light for sharp text and fine lines, or Strong for large decorative images.
Can every browser display WebP?
All current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari display WebP. Some older desktop apps may not open it, so keep your original PNG as a backup.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Image processing takes place in your browser. Files are not sent to Codia and are removed from this workspace when you refresh or leave. Website analytics, when permitted, never contain your images or file names.
Can I process multiple files?
Yes, up to 20 files per batch, within the displayed size limits. Each file is processed separately. Download successful results individually or as a ZIP; a failed file does not block the others.
Will quality and metadata stay the same?
Results depend on the operation and settings. Lossy compression changes pixels; JPG removes transparency. Exports target ordinary 8-bit web images and do not promise EXIF, HDR, original color profiles or 16-bit preservation. Always inspect the result.
