What you can convert

Image to Sketch layers for every kind of UI

If you can take a screenshot of it, you can open it as layers in Sketch. The plugin works with PNG, JPG and WebP images of real products and mockups.

A landing page screenshot converted into editable text, image and layout layers
  • iOS and Android app screens

Rebuild app screens without redrawing every component, then refine them in Sketch.

  • Websites and landing pages

Turn a captured web page into an editable artboard you can restyle and reuse.

  • Dashboards and admin panels

Tables, charts, sidebars and forms come back as editable layers, ready for a redesign.

  • Design references and inspiration

Turn a reference screen into layers you can study and adapt in your own design.

  • Legacy UI without source files

Lost the original Sketch file? Recover an editable version from a screenshot of the shipped product.

  • PNG, JPG and WebP images

Any UI image works, from a quick screenshot to an exported mockup. Higher resolution gives cleaner text.

How it works

How to convert a screenshot to Sketch

Three steps in the Sketch app on your Mac.

  1. 1

    Install the free plugin

Download the plugin, unzip it and double-click the .sketchplugin file. Sketch installs it automatically.

  2. 2

    Upload your screenshot

Open Codia AI Design from the Plugins menu, sign in with a free Codia account and upload a PNG, JPG or WebP image.

  3. 3

    Edit the generated layers

Codia rebuilds text, UI elements and images as Sketch layers on your canvas. Edit them like any other design.

What you get

Editable Sketch layers, not a flat bitmap

A screenshot dropped into Sketch is one image. A converted screenshot is a design: every piece is its own layer.

Real text layers

Headlines, labels and paragraphs come back as editable text, so you can change copy without retyping.

Grouped UI structure

Containers, lists, buttons and cards are grouped into a layer tree you can move, resize and restyle.

Images on their own layers

Photos, illustrations and icons are separated from the background instead of being baked into it.

Fonts and multilingual text

Font detection keeps the original look, and text in many languages is recognized, not just English.

Standard Sketch layers

The result is ordinary Sketch content, so styles, exports and your usual workflow all keep working.

Ready for design to code

A structured layer tree is a clean starting point for Codia Design to Code and other design-to-code tools.

Drop in, trace or convert: three ways to get a screenshot into Sketch

Dropping in the image is instant but leaves you with a bitmap. Tracing by hand is editable but slow. Converting gives you both.
